Growing up, we were never allowed to paint our rooms. Really, we didn't have colored walls anywhere in our houses that I remember. Always white. Now that I have my own house, I spend a lot of time dreaming up how I want to decorate and paint, getting ideas from HGTV and Pottery Barn catalogs. But usually, when it all comes down to it, painting is usually one of my last steps. I think I have a depressed fear of color, even though ideally, I love it!
My latest project I've designed in my head is our bedroom. Last year we got a new pretty light blue duvet cover and then bought a cool big picture that has great blues and browns in it to go above our bed, since we don't have a head-board. Since then, I've been imagining paint colors, curtains, and layout to bring everything together. Our room is difficult because we have wood stained trim and colored bedding. Usually on TV shows, the blue rooms look so cool but it's because they have great contrasting colors: white bedding, blue walls, white trim - so everything pops. This is why our room has taken me a while. I've been trying to decide on a blue wall color that won't make everything look just blue. Another reason it has been difficult is that there is something about me that I have to make something in my project harder than necessary because I want to be creative. Well, you know how the latest craze is vinyl wall stickers? That is my key creative part to my bedroom project! I found a website that does big wall stickers and found exactly what I had in my head to do on the wall! But then the combo of the cost and knowing if it would stick well to our texture, I think I decided to just paint it on...
So here is my great room make-over plan:
- Light blue bedding, dark gray/blue mix of pillows, brown or white sheets
- In between gray blue wall paint
- White lamp shades and accents
- Champagne/brown slightly shiny curtains with black rods (all our fixtures are black)
- White and dark gray/blue cherry blossom wall art

So, here's a schematic of our room and colors I came up with in Paint Shop.

But I don't think I'll do dark brown curtains (the vertical strip), more like the lighter top brown. And the top brown strip was there because I was trying to decide between brown or blue walls. Blue won. And the cherry blossoms are to give color contrast.
So, there is my grand idea. I told Jon, maybe we can do it when I go part-time and have more time to do this. Now I'm part-time and still have yet to get paint.
So, I'll let you know when it gets done and post pictures! ......
